Susan E. Satkowski is a shareholder in the Business Litigation Practice Group in the Philadelphia office of Lavin, OíNeil, Cedrone & DiSipio. Ms. Satkowski focuses her practice in the areas of commercial, construction, and insurance disputes, bankruptcy, and products and professional liability. The diversity of her practice in her over twenty-five years of experience enables her to counsel clients on a wide range of matters affecting corporations and other businesses today, even before matters reach the litigation stage.
Ms. Satkowski serves as national liaison counsel for various clients and has been admitted pro hac vice in cases in California; Delaware; Florida; New Jersey; Alabama and Texas. Working together as a team with claims representatives, management and outside counsel to formulate and implement case handling strategies, she assists the client in the selection of outside counsel, supervises discovery and pre-trial practice and, ever mindful of todayís increasingly competitive business climate, strives to accurately forecast legal expenses and achieve the clientís goals in case resolution within the desired budget. Recognizing the trend in civil litigation toward alternative dispute resolution, she has resolved cases for clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. She is a certified mediator and also regularly serves as an arbitrator in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County.
A recent representative case is Solorio v. Asplundh Tree Expert Co. et al, Civil Action No. 02-8035, that was pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. In this design defect case involving an aerial lift, Ms. Satkowski successfully obtained summary judgment for the defendant-manufacturer on the grounds that plaintiffís expertís opinion was inadmissible under the requirements of Fed. R. Evid. 702 and Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, Inc., 509 U.S. 579 (1993).
Ms. Satkowski is a 1981 graduate of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she was a member of and published two articles in the William & Mary Law Review.
