Elizabeth A. Jones, Esquire is an associate in the Professional Liability and Industrial and Consumer Product Liability Practice Groups in the Philadelphia office of Lavin, O’Neil, Cedrone & DiSipio. She concentrates her practice on medical professional liability defense litigation.
Ms. Jones manages complex medical professional liability matters. She serves as outside litigation counsel for a multi-national clinical laboratories corporation, handling a range of cases from allegations of a delay in diagnosis in cancer to premises liability from inception up to the time of trial. Ms. Jones has prepared and defended medical professionals for and at deposition. She also deposes all parties and witnesses.
Ms. Jones has successfully moved for and obtained dismissal for her client in multiple cases. She has represented her client at mediations and arbitrations, and successfully negotiated settlements far below the initial projected verdict and settlement values. She also works closely with a variety of medical experts to build the defense of her client.
While an associate with another firm, Ms. Jones assisted lead trial counsel in a medical malpractice defense case pending in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. On the eve of trial, she obtained information against plaintiff’s expert indicating that he was not qualified to testify as an expert pursuant to the Mcare Act. Ms. Jones drafted the Motion in Limine to Preclude the expert. The trial court indicated the Motion would be granted, a rarity in the county. In response, the expert refused to testify for fear of committing perjury. In the same matter, Ms. Jones assisted in the preparation of the defendant physician and of the defense expert for testifying at trial.
Ms. Jones earned her Juris Doctor from the Villanova University School of Law in Villanova, Pennsylvania in 2005. While in law school, Ms. Jones interned for a judge in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Family Division and for the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office.
Ms. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications/Mass Media from New York University in New York, New York in 2002. While a student at New York University, she was a member of the Washington Square News staff and spent a semester studying in London. She also was the Intern to the Managing Editor of Montgomery County Newspapers in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for two summers.
Ms. Jones is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey state courts and the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations.
Ms. Jones happily returned to the Lavin firm in August 2015. She initially was an associate with the firm from March 2007 through July 2013, when she left for a position with a small suburban firm specializing in medical malpractice defense. While at that firm, she assisted in the management of medical malpractice cases, defending hospitals and physicians, and personal injury cases. Ms. Jones is thrilled at the opportunity to resume her position at the Lavin firm and to work again with the attorneys and staff.
Ms. Jones is a native of the Philadelphia suburbs and continues to reside there to be close to her niece and three nephews. During some time away from the practice of law, Ms. Jones worked on her cooking and baking skills, and writing.
