Gerard Cedrone is a trial lawyer with over 33 years of experience in product liability defense work. He is a founding attorney at Lavin, O’Neil, Cedrone & DiSipio and serves as the firm’s Vice President and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Mr. Cedrone defends nearly every automobile maker in high-stakes catastrophic injury matters, wrongful death cases, multi-plaintiff consolidated matters, and class actions. He has served as national coordinating counsel, regional counsel, and lead trial counsel in over thirty-six states, handling high-profile product liability and toxic tort matters for his clients.
Mr. Cedrone has defended catastrophic automotive cases to verdict, including cases involving severe burns from a post-collision fuel-fed fire, severe brain damage after an alleged brake failure, and paralysis following a vehicle rollover. His experience also includes defending vehicle structures, rooftops, glazing, supplemental restraint systems, and handling and stability. In addition to his automotive work, Mr. Cedrone defends makers of diesel and electric locomotives, electric railroad cars, heavy equipment (such as forklifts and excavators) and other industrial and consumer products (such as aerial lifts, stump grinders, lawnmowers, dishwashers, swimming pools, dryers, and glass shower doors).
Mr. Cedrone frequently defends foreign companies with principal places of business in China, Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, and Germany. He travels extensively to non-English speaking countries to educate companies on how to best understand and manage the U.S. regulatory and product liability environment. He is currently counseling or defending numerous domestic and foreign automotive and technology clients in matters involving self-driving technology as well as active vehicle safety issues.
Mr. Cedrone is admitted to state courts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, and the United State District Courts for Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the District of New Jersey. He is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Cedrone graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from LaSalle University and earned his Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law. He is an active member of the American, Philadelphia, and New York Bar Associations, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Product Liability Advisory Council, the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, the Temple Inn of Court, and the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Cedrone currently serves as Judge Pro Tempore for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. A frequent keynote speaker on trial, product liability, engineering, and ethical issues, Mr. Cedrone has spoken before the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Product Liability Advisory Council, the American Conference Institute, and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He has lectured on emerging automotive technologies, including semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles - most recently at the 2015 ABA Emerging Issues in Motor Vehicle Liability Litigation Conference and at the 2015 American Conference Institute Automotive Product Liability Meeting. Mr. Cedrone spoke on trial techniques at the 2014 American Board of Trial Advocates’ Masters in Trial Advocacy, the 2015 ABA Emerging Issues in Motor Vehicle Liability Litigation Conference, and the 2015 Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Mr. Cedrone also lectures on civility and ethics for the above organizations and local schools.
In 2007, Mr. Cedrone was the co-author of a paper entitled "The Admissibility of Statistics in Product Liability Actions," published in the ABA publication The Brief. He was also co-author of numerous course materials published by the above organizations.
